DoPChoice Adds Flexible Lantern to its Snapbag Line
DoPChoice unveils new soft light source accessory.
The Munich-based company has added to its time-saving line of accessories for light fixtures with a new product in its Snapbags line. At 4.4 pounds (2 kg), the Lantern (SBRL3) is a versatile 3' (100 cm) low profile soft bag that can act as a traditional lantern, China Ball, or soft box. It's compatible with a number of Rabbit-Ears (sold separately) which are DoPChoice mounts that replace standard speed rings. Lantern's unique feature is its ability to change the depth of the sphere. It can fully expand like traditional lanterns or you can contract it for a smaller footprint.
Overhead, Lantern is a nice, soft space light source and its circular pattern, according to DoPChoice, "provides a pleasant round eye reflection" when used as a key light. When combined with Rabbit-Ears, set up is simple (we were able to put together one at NAB in a few seconds). Lantern works with the Mini, Rectangular, Gemini, and Astra versions, and so it fits a variety LED fixtures from ARRI, BB&S Lighting, Cineo, Creamsource, Kino Flo, Litepanels, Lupo, and Velvet.
A removable Lantern Skirt is an additional accessory which has 4 zip-up sides for more light control. Street price is $600, and if you'd like to check it out in person, you can do so during NAB at Booth C8547.
