Hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the 2019 Academy Award nominations (honoring the very best in film from the year prior) were unveiled this morning, with Alfonso Cuarón's Roma leading the way with 10 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Not far behind Roma's nomination count was A Star is Born with eight nominations, including Best Actress for its leading lady, Lady Gaga that is, and Best Actor for Bradley Cooper (who was snubbed of a Best Director nom for the same film). Golden Globe acting winners Mahershala Ali (Green Book) Christian Bale (Vice), Glenn Close (The Wife), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk), and Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) were also honored this morning with nominations from the Academy.

Other nominees in various categories included Black Panther (seven nominations), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Best Animated Feature), Spike Lee (receiving his very first Oscar nomination for Best Director for BlacKkKlansman), and the hit song Shallow (Best Original Song) for A Star is Born. In a unique coincidence, Roma also received a nomination for Best Foreign Film (which, given its clear support across the board this morning, it will most likely win).
