One of the most anticipated and truly exciting new cameras of the year is the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55. Designed to bring the vaunted photographic history of Fujifilm’s cameras and lenses to a video-centric form, the GFX ETERNA 55 is a large-format behemoth that covers Open Gate and a range of additional formats.

However, with all of its power and sophistication comes a lot of responsibility, at least in terms of how you might want to set up and customize the GFX ETERNA 55 for your unique shooting needs. To help, Fujifilm has launched a new video series to help with getting hands-on with this new cinema camera.

Here’s what you need to know from the Chapter 1 video on “Camera Set-Up” for the GFX ETERNA 55.

Setting Up the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55

Hosted by Michael from Fujifilm North America, this video series aims to guide you (a potential GFX ETERNA 55 renter or owner) through everything you might need to know about getting started with this new camera.

The crux of the guide is about the physical layout of the camera and what’s going to be included in the box when it is first delivered. There’s, of course, much more to explore once you’re up and running, but for those curious about what the unboxing process might look and feel like, this is a nice video that showcases what to expect when you’re opening this camera investment up for the first time.

The video also gives some good insights into how you might want to start considering what types of configurations and customizations would be ideal for your workflow with a modular cinema camera like this.

The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55

As we covered when it was first announced, the GFX ETERNA 55 is —debatably—Fujifilm’s first filmmaking camera. Or, it is certainly its newest one, and a nice push made by the company to meet the high-end filmmakers where they are.

Dubbed the GFX ETERNA "55" in a nod to its diagonal sensor size, this camera incorporates one of the tallest sensors currently on the market. Its native 4:3 aspect ratio provides filmmakers with a canvas that is 1.75x greater than 4-perf Super 35.

The GFX ETERNA 55 expands upon some of the breakthroughs from the company’s previous GFX100 II, with its video recording choices with new Open Gate, Super 35, and 2.39:1 anamorphic options using a large 43.8 x 32.9mm sensor.
