While it’s only been a few months since Insta360 shook the gimbal camera market up with the announcement of its Luna Ultra, the company is back with another new gimbal camera upgrade with the new Luna Pro.

If now is the time to strike while the iron is hot and DJI is on the sidelines in US markets, it makes sense to keep the pedal to the metal. And that’s certainly what the company is doing, as this new Luna Pro version looks even more impressive with its Leica Summicron lens and powerful 1-inch sensor.

The Insta360 Luna Pro Announced

The big specs and features filmmakers—or, more likely, content creators—will focus on will mostly come down to the lens and the sensor. The Insta360 Luna Pro is set to feature a Leica Summicron lens with a 1-inch 8K sensor that will support 8K30 Dolby Vision video and 4K120fps slow-motion video.

The gimbal camera can also record in a 4K30fps vertical format for social content, and it features impressive microscopic macro capability with a 4× Macro mode to capture finer details.

This new model will also feature a detachable screen with a built-in mic and support HD image transmission up to 20m for remote control. It will also support 10-bit I-Log with 14-stop dynamic range, preserving rich light, shadow, and color detail for professional color grading.

This looks like another solid gimbal camera upgrade and should be one of the top options in whatever markets it's available in, regardless of the competition. Still, it’s only a gimbal camera, so its appeal might be limited to a certain class of content creators, but with that target audience growing, it makes sense to keep pumping these out.
