SIRUI Releases New 400mm and Anamorphic Smartphone Lenses

Sirui TL-400mm Long Focus Lens
These SIRUI lenses may up your mobile video and photography game.

In the market for some glass for your smartphone? SIRUI USA has launched a pair of intriguing new mobile lenses. The first is the TL-400, a 400mm telephoto lens, and the other is the VD-O1, a 2:4:1 anamorphic lens, and both have some pretty sweet specs.

Let's take a closer look.

TL-400mm Lens

The TL-400 long focus lens has features not normally found on mobile phone lenses:

  • Aircraft aluminum housing components
  • German manufactured Schott Optical glass lens elements
  • Multilayer, anti-reflective coatings, with high light transmission levels
  • Precise color rendition
  • Reduced vignetting and distortion

The TL-400 is being sold as a kit, with, in addition to the lens:

  • Lens cage
  • Mini table top tripod and ball head
  • Bluetooth remote controller
  • Storage case

The TL-400 kit is available now and costs $149.90.

VD-01 Anamorphic Lens

The VD-01 has some shared materials with the TL-400:

  • Aircraft aluminum housing components
  • German manufactured Schott Optical glass lens elements
  • Multilayer, anti-reflective coatings, with high light transmission levels

However, the VD-01's "retro style" anti-reflective coating produces what SIRUI calls "sci-fi light leak and flares effects." The lens shoots at a 2:4:1 aspect ratio. It attaches to your phone with the included SIRUI mobile lens clip adapter. Additionally, the lens is compatible with the SIRUI Circular Polarizer and Adjustable ND filters, both sold separately. The SIRUI Lens App or FiLMiC Pro are required to activate anamorphic shooting with the lens.

We love mobile cinematography, but much of the add-on gear hasn't lived up to our hopes. We're very curious, given the materials, about these two lenses. We'll let you know as soon as we get our hands on a set and can test them.

Let us know in the comments whether you think add-on lenses are worth the effort for mobile cinematography, or if you have good examples that you want to share with everyone.

I too have been a little underwhelmed at the results from mobile add-ons like this but with a little creativity you can make solutions like this work for certain projects. The 400mm lens is interesting. There's a lot of manufacturers who offer stuff like this though and without verified reviews, I'd be wary to try a brand I haven't heard of before. Moondog Labs, Moment, and Beastgrip would be my trusted recommendations at this point.

I haven’t personally used any of the SIRUI lenses yet, but am hoping to get a set to evaluate. I actually shoot a lot of video on my phone, often with a gimbal, using FiLMiC Pro and ProCam and have gotten some surprisingly nice footage.

here's a radical thought. if you're all interested in video + photography, why not get a camera ? they're portable, and they can do amazing things.

Same reason some people play Stratocasters and others ukeleles. They both make music, one is cheap and fun and the other one is professional and expensive. I wouldn't overinvest in a mobile kit, but I've had a blast playing with my cell phone and a Zhiyun gimbal.

Had experience using a friend. The problem is rubbing from the clamps. Let a friend have a protective glass and in general it was not a problem, but without this I would not recommend using it.

This is not about a specific brand sirui, but in general about mounted accessories.
