Is That a 400mm Zeiss Telephoto Lens in Your Pocket or Are You Just Happy to See Us?
A look at the comically long Zeiss telephoto extender set to be available with the new vivo X300 Ultra smartphone.

vivo X300 Ultra
We know smartphone lenses aren’t a joke. It’s serious (and big) business these days as smartphones are becoming faster, smarter, and more sophisticated photo and video machines.
Still, it’s kind of a funny sight to see, as vivo has unveiled its new flagship X300 Ultra smartphone, which is set to feature a 400mm-equivalent vivo Zeiss Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra, which will serve as a key component of the phone’s photography kit.
Let’s take a look at this new smartphone, its 400mm lens option, and see what it could offer for your pocket-sized filmmaking needs.
The vivo X300 Ultra
Debuted at MWC Barcelona, vivo has unveiled its upcoming top-tier imaging flagship smartphone, the X300 Ultra. Set to feature an undoubtedly impressive set of operating capabilities and recording specs, the big highlight here is, of course, the very noticeable telephoto lens extender, which is set to be included with the smartphone’s photography kit.
This upcoming X300 Ultra will feature a 200MP Zeiss APO telephoto camera, Zeiss gimbal-grade main camera, and will be powered by a Pro Imaging Chip VS1. The smartphone will also feature a 6510 mAh BlueVolt Battery, 90W FlashCharge, and Dimensity 9500, along with some nice-looking industry design features and glass.
However, we know what the main selling point is going to be.
ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra
Set to offer a 400mm equivalent focal length, the ZEISS Telephoto Extender Gen 2 Ultra is the star of the show for this upcoming vivo X300 Ultra, as it aims to push the boundaries of what mobile imaging is capable of in terms of length and pro-grade optical performance.
The goal of offering this 400mm-equivalent telephoto extender is to give creators, filmmakers, and photographers breakthroughs in magnification, optical performance, stabilization, and structural design.
Co-engineered with Zeiss, the lens is designed to meet APO imaging standards and will support a full 200MP optical output, which will reportedly set it to deliver exceptional image quality at up to 1600mm with its digital crop.

Price and Availability
Overall, the vivo X300 Ultra does look to be quite intriguing and could offer some pretty impressive specs for smartphone videographers—if that is your thing.
We don’t have any details about price or release date just yet, but it’s likely that the smartphone will be out in China here soon, with details for the US emerging not too long after.
