Following up on the viral buzz of the company’s smallest mirrorless camera ever invented, Yashica is back with a new project on the horizon that aims to bring some of the same innovation to the camcorder market with the Yashica Journey.

Set to debut with a Kickstarter campaign that is launching soon, Yashica has announced the development of the Journey, a pocket storytelling camcorder that aims to be a top option for DIY solo creators looking for an easy-to-use camcorder option with innovative features.

Here’s what we know so far and how you can find out more once the Kickstarter officially goes live.

While we don’t know the majority of the proposed specs, features, or pricing for this new “pocket storytelling camcorder” being developed by Yachica, we do know a few things that have been shared on the soon-to-launch Kickstarter page so far.

It sounds like the camcorder will feature a 115° lens that will be able to capture both the subject and the atmosphere, as well as a 270° flip-screen ideal for self-recording.

The goal of the project is to help DIY solo creators “escape over-processed smartphone aesthetics,” as the Yashica Journey will feature manual controls and other features that come from the company’s “75 years of optical heritage.”

As mentioned above, we don’t have full specs or pricing for this upcoming camcorder just yet, but we do have a Kickstarter page that outlines a lot of promises and ideas behind the project.

Intriguing for those who are looking for some innovation and new options in the solo creator space, this camcorder promises high-quality sound, instant Wi-Fi transfers to your phone for quick editing and posting, and fast USB-C charging.
