'The Rider,' 'Eighth Grade,' and 'First Reformed' Win Big at the 2018 IFP Gotham Awards

Presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP), the star-studded 2018 Gotham Awards took place this evening at Cipriani Wall Street in downtown Manhattan.
Now in its 28th year, the Gotham Awards are one of the preeminent (and first) film awards shows of the season, often serving as a strong prognosticator of what's to come over the next several months of film honoring. The big winner of the evening was Chloe Zhao's The Rider (winner of Best Feature) and Paul Schrader's First Reformed (winner of Best Actor and Best Screenplay). Toni Collette won Best Actress for Hereditary and Eighth Grade's Bo Burnham and his leading lady Elsie Fisher won Breakthrough Director and Breakthrough Actor, respectively.
