Well, that’s a nice surprise—at least for those who might have been a bit turned off the other day when Apple introduced its new MacBook Air with a retail price of $1,099. (Which still might sneakily be Apple’s best value Apple laptop, but we’ll see as the first reviews of this new Neo begin to roll in.)

Set to feature a durable aluminum design, a solid 13-inch Liquid Retina display, the power of Apple silicon, and all-day battery life, the MacBook Neo might be quite a value offering as well, especially when you factor in its starting price of just $599.

Let’s take a look at the all-new MacBook Neo and explore what it might be able to offer for video editors, filmmakers, and video pros on the run.

The New Apple MacBook Neo

So, from the looks of things, Apple has designed the new MacBook Neo to be its true “bargain” option for everyday users looking for an affordable, yet capable, working laptop. Still, with that being said, the Neo is set to include a lot of the same features that Apple rolled out with the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, just at some slightly reduced capacities.

The MacBook Neo will be powered by an A18 Pro, which should help it easily handle all of your usual everyday tasks like web browsing, content streaming, and basic photo and video editing needs.

Similar to the marketing for the other new MacBooks, Apple is pushing a lot of info about the Neo being up to three times faster when running on-device AI workloads (like applying advanced effects to photos, for example), something which the company is banking on people caring about now—and, more likely, in the future.

All-Day Battery Life and Seamless iPhone Integration

While there’s a lot to explore with this new MacBook Neo, the big news here really is just the price and its all-around usability. Apple reports that the Neo will be able to provide up to 16 hours of battery life, which should allow users to go pretty much all day on a single charge.

“We’re incredibly excited to introduce MacBook Neo, which delivers the magic of the Mac at a breakthrough price. Built from the ground up to be more affordable for even more people, MacBook Neo is a laptop only Apple could create. It features a durable aluminum design in four beautiful colors; a brilliant Liquid Retina display; Apple silicon-powered performance; all-day battery life; a high-quality camera, mics, and speakers; a Magic Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad; and the intuitive and powerful features of macOS. There is simply no other laptop like it.” — John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.

The Neo will also feature a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual mics, and dual speakers with Spatial Audio. The new Neo will also be more seamlessly integrated with iPhones than ever before, as users will be able to swap between the two for important tasks and facilitate easy transfers of data and footage.
