Big news for ARRI shooters: the company has announced a new SUP 1.2.2 update that is set to add performance boosts for those working with NIA-1 interface adapters and the Hi-5 and Hi-5 SX hand units.

These latest Software Update Packages are part of a coordinated firmware release designed to ensure that all new features and fixes are available across the entire Electronic Control System simultaneously, helping ensure a smooth update experience for all—no matter your setup.

Let’s look at what’s new.

ARRI NIA-1: WiFi USB Stick Support

So the first part of the update is for the ARRI NIA-1 Interface Adapter specifically, which the SUP 1.2.2 will now allow users to establish a WiFi connection between NIA-1 units.

This will further add wireless flexibility to NIA-1 networks by enabling support for selected third-party Wi-Fi USB-C sticks, something that has been much requested for a good while.

The other news is that compatible wireless adapters based on the MediaTek MT7921AU chipset will now include popular options such as the Netgear Nighthawk AX3000 and the ALFA AWUS036AXML.

ARRI NIA-1: Lens sync

The other major news here is that the Network Interface Adapter (NIA-1) will now be able to sync two or more lenses more easily, even when shooters are using different lens brands or even focal lengths.

With this update, a single Hi‑5 can now use lens data to simultaneously set focus and iris values or start and stop recording on multiple cameras across multiple locations on a network.
