Atomos Acquires Flanders Scientific: Here’s How the World of Pro Referencing Monitoring Could Change
Atomos has announced that it has acquired Flanders Scientific, one of the most respected names in professional reference monitoring, as the company reinforces its focus on camera-to-delivery.

Big news Monday morning in the world of professional reference monitoring: Atomos has announced it is acquiring Flanders Scientific. Flanders (FSI) is one of the most respected names in the pro reference monitor space and a pretty sizable acquisition for Atomos, as the larger company in the equation here is set to further reinforce its commitment to precision monitoring across the entire production pipeline.
With Flanders Scientific’s patents and technology, big things could be afoot for Atomos as the company will likely expand its offerings to be more robust, from on-camera capture tools to the final color grading and delivery.
Here’s what you need to know about this acquisition and what it could mean for the film and video industry moving forward.

Announced via press release from the companies, the goal here is pretty direct as Atomos shares that “this strategic move reinforces Atomos’ long-term commitment to precision monitoring across the entire production pipeline, from on-camera capture through to final color grading and delivery.”
“We are incredibly proud to welcome the Flanders Scientific team into Atomos. They have built a reputation for absolute precision and trust in reference monitoring, and that aligns perfectly with where we are taking the Atomos business. This acquisition strengthens our commitment to monitoring at every level, from on-camera through to final delivery, while also accelerating our ability to support the highest tier of professional production and post-production workflows. By combining FSI’s expertise with our global scale and innovation, we are creating something truly unique for the industry. Just as importantly, we are committed to preserving what makes Flanders Scientific special. The brand, the philosophy, and the engineering approach will remain unchanged, while gaining the support and reach of the broader Atomos organization.” Peter Barber, Chief Executive Officer of Atomos.
By bringing Flanders Scientific, specifically, into the Atomos Group, the company is focused on finding ways to work with FSI’s world-class expertise in color science and reference display technology. The goal here appears to be to use FSI’s tech in combination with Atomos’ global reach and current (and future) products, as the acquisition will help the company deliver more complete and integrated monitoring solutions for filmmakers, broadcasters, and other hybrid content creators.
The Future of Professional Reference Monitoring

Over the years, Atomos has become one of the biggest names in camera monitoring technology, with many products that already span multiple stages of production. From the Shinboi range of on-camera monitors to the Ninja family of monitor-recorders, Atomos already has quite a bit of expertise in this space. However, they could always use more, and acquiring Flanders Scientific will certainly help to that end.
“Joining Atomos is a significant, and exciting, moment for Flanders Scientific. FSI was built on the simple premise that professionals responsible for image fidelity deserve tools they can trust. That standard has never changed, and it won't. What this partnership gives us is the infrastructure and reach to stand behind that promise for more customers, in more markets, more effectively than we could on our own. I'm excited about what we can deliver together — not just for the broadcast, digital imaging technician, and colorist communities we have always served, but for the broader production world that Atomos reaches every day. The best work FSI has ever done is still ahead of us.” Bram Desmet, Chief Executive Officer of Flanders Scientific.
With this acquisition, Atomos shares that it now plans to further focus on the full spectrum of monitoring from on-camera to on-set to live productions and through postproduction and final delivery.
As of now, Atomos has shared that FSI will continue to operate as a distinct brand within the Atomos family, with no major changes. You can find more info on the deal on the company’s website here.
