Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 Firmware Update
One of the more popular power zoom lenses on the market is set to get a firmware update that will give it a pretty significant boost in its photo and video capture. It’s not every day that camera lenses get such major improvements, so this is some cool news to report on.

This update will add some improved AF tracking performance for both photo and video operations, enhancing the smoothness of AF tracking when you’re working on documentaries, wildlife, weddings, etc… Let’s check out the firmware update and go over how to get your lens updated today.
RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z Firmware Update
While we do see camera firmware updates quite regularly, camera lens ones are a bit rarer. They’re also not usually too substantive. So, this is a nice break to see such notable improvements coming to a lens.
That being said, it’s not a huge update as this new firmware will really just fix and enhance these two shooting aspects. Still, it’s absolutely worth downloading and updating for anyone who uses the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z Power Zoom lens for their various photo and video projects.
Here are the official firmware Version 1.1.0 notes from Canon’s website:
- Improves AF tracking performance during zoom operations in still photography when used with specific cameras.*
- Enhances smoothness of AF tracking during zoom operations in video recording.
Available Canon Cameras
Canon also notes that this firmware update will only be applicable to just two Canon cameras as of right now. The update might expand to work with other Canon cameras in the future, but for now, this Firmware Version 1.1.0 update and the improved AF tracking performance updates will only be applicable to the following cameras:
- Canon EOS R1
- Canon EOS R5 Mark II
The Canon R5 Mark II also actually just got a price reduction that’s quite noteworthy as well, so perhaps it's a good time for a double investment.
