The Malarkey Film Festival, an NYC-based, women-run film festival has just opened submissions for their third festival season. This time around, Blackmagic Design is sponsoring the event and providing prizes to Malarkey fest winners.

This Malarkey and Blackmagic Design collaboration was designed to promote inclusivity and accessibility in the indie filmmaking community and provide resources for filmmakers to learn the free professional post-production suite, DaVinci Resolve.

Malarkey has two exciting categories to submit to this season:

  • Introductory Micro-Shorts: This category requires that short films be 5 or fewer minutes in length and utilize at least two aspects of Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve free software—whether it be picture edit, audio edit, color grade, VFX, or final deliverables. This category is FREE to submit to, and the submissions can be new or old, and any genre. Malarkey Film Festival is providing resources to filmmakers who want to learn DaVinci Resolve.
  • Open Submissions: This category's submissions must be 15 or fewer minutes in length, can be new or old, and any genre. While filmmakers are welcome to use DaVinci Resolve, this is NOT a requirement. This category asks for a sliding-scale submissions fee, but The Malarkey Film Festival is offering No Film School readers a complete fee waiver for this Open Submissions Category with the code: NOFILMSCHOOL2021

Selected films from both submission categories will have an opportunity to win Blackmagic Design prizes.

Submissions are open until April 30, 2021.

All Malarkey Film Festival screening events (currently virtual until they can be in person again) are free to attend with a suggested donation. They will feature a live musical performance from a local artist or band, and 100% of donations collected during the events go to a local initiative.
