Ever since the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 was announced, much less released, it’s been an intriguing camera for many reasons. The first, obviously, is its large-format capabilities, but it’s also been interesting to watch how the film and video industry has been, perhaps slowly, moving toward this large-format shooting style.
Some of the reasons for this lag might just simply have to do with gear and workflows, and Fujifilm has taken a big step forward by finally releasing a bright, high-resolution EVF for the camera, which aims to promise new potential for filmmakers specifically.

FUJIFILM VF-GFXC2 Viewfinder
So, as mentioned above, the gear and perhaps the learning curve for jumping into large-format cinematography can be a bit steep, and while the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 is a top option for many, not having a high-resolution, bright viewfinder option has been a notable omission.
Fujifilm has finally changed that, though, as the new VF-GFXC2 Viewfinder should fit the bill quite well, delivering a full-display view of GF 4K 4:3 Open Gate recordings on its 0.64-inch OLED panel.
The viewfinder attaches to the GFX ETERNA 55 via a dedicated ¼-20 mounting point and offers plenty of flexibility for a variety of shooting scenarios, including standard tripod setups and handheld run-and-gun work.
The viewfinder connects to the camera through its dedicated ETERNA multi-pin connector and should offer plenty of brightness, with peak levels at 1000 nits, and overall offer 2048x1536 high-resolution.

Overall, this is an exciting addition to an intriguing camera system that could really use this add-on. The FUJIFILM VF-GFXC2 Viewfinder is set to retail for $1,649 and should be ready to start shipping by the end of the year.
