This is a big day for full-frame autofocus zoom lenses, as Thypoch, a company best known for its vintage-inspired manual primes that have offered cinematographers, photographers, and hybrid content professionals a nice mix of quality optics and affordability, is moving into the AF lens space.
The company is calling this new Voyager AF 24-50mm f/2.8 the first full-frame AF zoom lens developed by a Chinese optical brand, and it marks a bold new direction for the company as it is set to bring always-helpful competition to an important space for film and video pros.
Let’s take a look at this new Thypoch Voyager 24-50mm f/2.8 and its full-frame autofocus zoom capabilities.

So, what’s unique off the bat about this new Thypoch Voyager is that it’s built to use an internal zoom mechanism that holds physical length fixed across the focal range, with a constant f/2.8 aperture from 24mm through 50mm.
As the company puts it, this effectively allows it to operate as three primes in one lens, as these three focal lengths can then be used to cover the working distances needed for a wide range of applications, from documentary and reporting to more intimate portrait and street shoots.
Plus, as an AF zoom lens, the Voyager will maintain its maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its entire zoom range, which should, of course, make it capable of handling low-light situations and shallow depth-of-field shooting with relative ease.
