If there’s one area of film and video production that has perhaps seen the greatest diversity, innovation, and growth over the past few years, it's the review monitor space. You could say that cameras themselves have been almost overdeveloped as well, but this reference monitor space is almost as crowded, despite likely not being nearly as profitable.

Still, for filmmakers, videographers, and producers sitting in video villages, these many options are great to consider and help keep innovation and prices down across these offerings. To help with this further, Viltrox has rolled out another touchscreen HD monitor, the DC-550 PRO II.

Let’s take a look at this new 5.5” touchscreen HD monitor and go over what it can offer for your sets.

Designed to be yet another lightweight, easy-to-use, and sharp and bright production monitor, the Viltrox DC-550 PRO II is about as solid and reliable as they come at its minuscule price point. The Viltrox DC-550 PRO II features a sharp and bright 5.5” display that can support up to UHD 4K60 video input and can send the signal through an HDMI loop-through output.

As an update to the previous PRO model, this new version features additional features such as histograms, positionable waveforms, a cooling fan, 1400 cd/m² brightness, and 1000:1 contrast, making it ideal for both indoor and outdoor sets.

With its 1920 x 1080 touchscreen display, the Viltrox DC-550 PRO II supports live view from cameras and provides image tools such as peaking, color temperature, tone, pixel-to-pixel zoom, brightness, contrast, and custom anamorphic de-squeeze ratios.

As an added bonus, shooters or crews can also monitor audio via the Viltrox DC-550 PRO II’s built-in speaker or 3.5mm headphone port, and review waveform repositioning for easier viewing, along with three zoom levels.

Available with a built-in L-series battery plate that should enable shooters to power the monitor with an L-series battery or directly with a separate AC adapter, the Viltrox DC-550 PRO II should be quite versatile and ready for most shooting scenarios.

However, for many, reviewing a new monitor like this, which should be quite capable and trusted overall, the real selling points will be the specs and price point, which you can check out below.
