It's been a tough year for the HFPA. The press association came under fire this year for its lack of diversity, followed by drama from its former president. Then the star-studded yearly telecast was canceled. Tom Cruise even returned his statues.

Despite all that, the 79th Golden Globes nominees were announced this morning. As is typical, there are a few nominations here that feel a little out of left field (we'll let you guess which ones), but audience favorites like Squid Game, Succession, Ted Lasso, Licorice Pizza, Mare of Easttown, and The Morning Show make multiple appearances. It's really excellent to see Sterlin Harjo's Reservation Dogs get a nod and Sundance fav CODA get recognition.

Meanwhile, the organization says it's continuing to revamp its practices.

"Over the last eight months, the HFPA has completely overhauled their bylaws, implementing sweeping changes from top to bottom that address ethics and code of conduct, diversity, equity and inclusion, governance, membership and more," a statement for the awards show said. "Recently, the HFPA admitted their largest and most diverse class to date of 21 new members, all of whom are first-time Golden Globe voters."
