Still Shooting DSLR? Meike is Releasing a New Lens for Your Ancient EF Mount Cameras
Are you a DSLR owner staying loyal to your favorite camera until it dies? Your reward for your stubbornness is a new 85mm EF lens from Meike that actually should be quite intriguing.

Meike 85mm F1.8 SE Mark II Lens
It’s 2026, people, what are we talking about here!? DSLR cameras are a thing of the ancient past these days. The mirrorless revolution happened, and the more compact and more powerful camera style won. Yet, as a longtime owner and user of cameras like the Canon 5D and 7D, I will say—I get it.
If you find a camera that you love and know like the back of your hand, and if it works for you, keep using it. To reward those stubborn enough to still be shooting DSLR, Meikie has announced it is releasing a new 85mm f/1.8 Mark II Full-Frame Auto Focus STM Lens that is designed for EF mount DSLR cameras.
Here’s what you need to know.

Now, to be completely fair, this new Meike 85mm f/1.8 Mark II lens will also be compatible with Canon EOS cameras with an RF mount option as well, but that’s not the story. The story is that a company is making a DSLR-focused EF-mount lens in the first place.
And it’s actually kind of a heartwarming story because it shows that despite what we cover with the constant news of new mirrorless and cinema cameras coming out every few months by every brand under the sun, there are enough stubborn videographers and filmmakers still using DSLRs for a company to justify making a new lens designed for them.
This Meike 85mm f/1.8 Mark II isn’t anything too new or revolutionary, but for DSLR owners desperate for anything new that they can use without finding odd rig mounting solutions, it might be nice to have something new to just grab and go with for once.
