DJI Responds to Drone Ban and Asks for Support From Its US Customers and Fans
In a statement put out by DJI, the company thanks its fans and reaffirms its commitment to its US customers as it promises to explore new paths forward.

As we covered for several months, the DJI “drone ban” is finally here as the FCC has officially added DJI to its national security “covered list,” in effect banning the company from selling any new drones in the United States.
And while this is certainly devastating for the Chinese-based company, it’s hardly been a surprise at this point, as things had been heading this way for some time. The other big part of this news is that all previously purchased DJI drones are not banned, and current users will be able to continue using their DJI drones and other products.
In response, DJI has issued a statement where it outlines its disappointment in this ruling as well as outlines its commitment to its US customers and goals to continue exploring paths to sell its new, popular drones in the US again soon.
DJI Drone Ban Response
In a statement put out on the company’s social channels, DJI has issued what really amounts to a “thank you” letter to its customers. The company also reaffirms its commitment to its US users and fans and reassures that the company is “actively exploring paths forward.”
Here’s the full text of the statement:
“Thank you to everyone who has been following developments in the U.S. and speaking up. Your support means a lot. Today’s update from the FCC does not affect DJI products already in use in the U.S. Customers can continue to purchase and fly DJI drones as usual. The FCC also notes that new products may be cleared for launch in the future, based on determinations by the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.”
The second page of the statement reads as follows:
“Concerns about DJI’s data security are about protectionism, not evidence. DJI products remain among the safest and most secure on the market, backed by years of reviews by U.S. government agencies and independent third parties. While we are disappointed by this development, we remain committed to our U.S. customers and are actively exploring paths forward. We’ll keep you informed as more information becomes available. Thank you for standing with us.”
An Ongoing Battle
Despite the ban going into effect, it’s easy to see that this story isn’t going to let up anytime soon. Not only is this a story for filmmakers and videographers about some of their favorite gear, but it’s also rife with geopolitics and could have impacts larger than the film and video industry.
