Welcome to the Thunderdome of camera cages!

Fighting to be the best camera cage option for the new Nikon ZR cinema camera—a powerful and affordable option that combines the best of RED’s color science with Nikon’s engineering—we have several top contenders from some great and respected brands.

To go along with a Nikon ZR camera cage option from SmallRig and a just-announced Tilta Nikon ZR camera cage, we now have another new contender entering the ring. Kondor Blue has announced that they have a Nikon ZR camera cage in the works that should be out here in early 2026 to give interested Nikon ZR owners or renters another top option to consider when looking to protect and rig out the popular new cinema camera.

Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Kondor Blue Nikon ZR cage.

Set to release in 2026, but available for pre-order now, Kondor Blue recognizes that the Nikon ZR is a powerhouse camera in a compact package that is quite impressive for its price. Kondor Blue’s camera cage solution aims to take all of the use cases, strengths, and weaknesses into consideration throughout its design process to present a top option for filmmakers and videographers intrigued by the ZR.

The core of Kondor Blue’s cage design is set to be its Right Side Plate and Arca Baseplate. These will form a strong protective structure while retaining the compact size of the camera body. The Right Side Plate will feature NATO rail, sensor-centered anti-twist mount, and side strap loops. The Right Side Plate is also set to lock into the camera body’s strap loop, while the Arca Baseplate will connect to the camera’s base and anti-twist slot.

The Left Side Plate looks like it will also be able to include a NATO rail, anti-twist mounts, and integrated USB-C and HDMI Micro cable protection. Overall, Kondor Blue shares that every sliver of space will be shaved to maximize the camera’s incredible 4” screen rotation while cables are in use.
