Uh-Oh: Technical Service Advisory Issued for These Nikon Cameras
If you’re a Nikon ZR, Z6III, or Z5II owner, you might want to check whether your camera is eligible for free updates and repairs.

While this isn’t good news, per se, for Nikon camera owners, it’s not the worst news to receive, as it’s worth checking to help ensure you don’t have worse news later. No one wants a camera to crap out on them in the middle of a shoot, so if you can avoid that, you’ll likely be happy to get some free repairs now rather than deal with a catastrophe later.
That’s why Nikon has issued a technical service advisory for a few of their popular mirrorless and cinema cameras. If you’re a Nikon ZR, Z6III, or Z5II owner, you might want to follow the steps below to check whether your camera is among the possibly affected models and qualify for free repairs.
Nikon Technical Service Advisory
Set to begin accepting affected products sent in as early as next week (March 23, 2026), Nikon has announced that the company has learned that certain Z6III, Z5II, and ZR cameras were manufactured using parts that do not meet the company’s quality standards, and that these issues may cause the cameras to become inoperable.
Nikon has identified the affected serial number range for the Z6III, Z5II, and ZR camera units and would like to inform customers of our response to this issue. For those who have already purchased an affected Z6III, Z5II, or ZR camera and would like to have their camera serviced to correct this issue, Nikon promises to provide free repairs, including replacement of necessary parts, even if the warranty period has expired.
(Nikon will also cover the cost of shipping affected Z6III, Z5II, or ZR cameras to and from our service centers.)

How to Tell if Your Camera is Affected
If you’re an owner of any of the cameras mentioned above, Nikon has provided a guide on how to identify affected products.
To check whether your Z6III, Z5II, or ZR camera is affected by this issue, just go to this page here and click “Affected Product Serial Numbers” for the corresponding model and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your camera’s serial number.
If the entered serial number shows that your camera is an affected product, instructions for submitting a repair request will be displayed. If your camera is not affected, you may continue using it with confidence.
Nikon has also shared that you can contact them directly through the support page on the company’s website or call them at 1-800-Nikon US (1-800-645-6687).
