The popular point-and-shoot camera brand Ricoh is back with another hyper-focused GR camera update that gives this ultimate snap shooter camera a new angle. The Ricoh GR IV Monochrome edition does exactly what it sounds like: it shoots black-and-white photography. It can also shoot video, so it is worth shouting out for primary videographers, but that is certainly not its main use.

Still, with a 25.7MP sensor and the capabilities to record FullHD 1080 video at 60p, 30p, and 24p frame rates, it’s worth covering for hybrid content creators who might want a stylish black-and-white camera that can fill in occasional gaps for arthouse-style video projects.

The Ricoh GR IV Monochrome Camera

The first Ricoh GR camera to be fully dedicated to black-and-white, the Ricoh GR IV Monochrome is a new, specialized version of the company’s popular compact fixed-lens camera, featuring a unique sensor that has been modified to solely record black-and-white imagery.

Like the original Ricoh GR IV camera, this black-and-white-only version will feature the same 25.7MP sensor that will now feature a built-in selectable red contrast filter that replaces the usual ND filter that comes with the standard edition of the camera.

This monochrome version will also get new monochrome-specific Image Control options, along with an updated exterior design that will make use of a “monochrome aesthetic” to let you know what type of vibe the camera is going for with this edition.

Along with these black-and-white updates, the camera is pretty much exactly the same as before and will feature the same 28mm-equivalent lens, fast AF, refined Shake Reduction, and the improved wireless settings control via the GR WORLD app.
