Designed to be a mobile app for filmmakers and video creators looking to enable wired and wireless video monitoring for many of their favorite Sony cinema and mirrorless cameras, the Sony Monitor & Control app has proven to be a popular option for those looking to unlock precise exposure adjustments and focus controls on smartphones, tablets, and Mac computers.

Still, these technologies can always be improved, and that’s what Sony has done with the latest 2.6.0 update to the Monitor & Control app.

Here’s what you need to know about everything new.

Sony Monitor & Control App Update

The big news here is that Sony has added new recording functionality, which should help enable direct saving of monitored video to the device’s internal storage. This is only available on the paid plan, but it's a nice upgrade nonetheless.

The Sony Monitor & Control app is also getting a new audio level display for high-resolution monitoring, as well as improved multi-camera monitoring connectivity.

Here’s the full list of everything new:

  • Recording functionality has been added, enabling direct saving of monitored video to the device's internal storage (Paid Plan)*
  • Audio level display is now supported during high-resolution monitoring*
  • Multi-camera monitoring connectivity has been improved as follows
  • • Connected cameras now automatically reconnect if the connection is interrupted
  • • Sorting by camera name is now implemented
  • • The numbers of connected and detected cameras can now be displayed
  • A feature that turns off Live View for more stable control has been added
  • The maximum number of TOOL favourites that can be registered has been increased from 3 to 6
