DJI Launches Its First Variable Aperture Action Camera (And Here's Why That Matters)
Featuring an all-new 1/1.1-inch square sensor, the new DJI Osmo Action 6 will be able to deliver dynamic range of up to 13.5 stops and record up to 4k/120p video.

DJI Osmo Action 6
DJI’s newest action camera is here and it’s another new affordable option that might shake up the action cam industry even further. The DJI Osmo Action 6 is an all-in-one action camera that excels in video capture as it offers solid video footage in up to 4K/120p resolution.
Powered by a new 1/1.1” square sensor, the Osmo Action 6 will also notably feature a variable aperture that will offer a range of f/2.0 to f/4.0, which should help with versatility and low-light performance. The DJI Osmo Action 6 will also include a ton of other features that would be suitable for rough-and-tumble adventure use, so here’s what you need to know.
The DJI Osmo Action 6
For those looking to get the latest specs and features that modern action camera technology can offer, the DJI Osmo Action 6 will be a top option here at release. Along with the 1/1.1” square sensor, the Osmo Action 6 will also feature Starburst mode, the aforementioned variable f/2 to f/4 aperture, and 50GB of internal storage.
The Osmo Action 6 will also be more cold resistant than before while still maintaining its high-bright dual OLED screens, RockSteady and HorizonSteady stabilization systems.
The 38MP sensor, a 4-hour battery life, and a waterproof camera body with a water pressure gauge are a few more key perks along with the ability to capture 8K stills, subject centering/tracking, OsmoAudio support, raw footage capture, a 155° field of view, and an SD card slot that supports up to 1TB cards.
DJI’s First Variable Aperture Action Cam
Perhaps most notable about this Osmo Action 6 though might simply be its variable aperture which helps the cam break away from the traditional fixed-aperture design of action cameras. This new feature will allow users to choose from multiple aperture modes that suit a wide range of scenarios.
Plus, with a maximum aperture of f/2.0, Osmo Action 6 allows more light to enter the shot and improves the image quality in low-light settings.
The Osmo Action 6 will also debut a new 4K Custom mode that will allow users to shoot first and crop later in post-production to frame video, making it possible to share creative videos across different social media platforms.
