Launch Your DJI Drones Directly From Your Cars With This On-Vehicle Drone System
DJI has partnered with the Chinese EV company BYD to introduce a new AI on-vehicle drone system that aims to revolutionize both car and drone technologies.

Lingyuan AI On-vehicle Drone System
Well, this is cool. The Chinese electric vehicle company BYD—which is actually the world’s number one EV maker- has partnered with DJI to introduce a new AI on-vehicle drone system called the “Lingyuan” that is here to introduce some revolutionary new car and drone technology.
As you’ll see in the video below, owners of this AI on-vehicle system will be able to store, launch, and operate a DJI drone from the comfy confines of their BYD electric vehicle. The demo showcases this technology operating with ease and in a very sophisticated, futuristic way as a compartment on top of the car opens up to release the drone into the skies.
Let’s take a look at this Lingyuan AI on-vehicle drone system and explore how this technology is aiming to revolutionize the road and the skies alike.
Lingyuan AI On-vehicle Drone System
While this obviously isn’t something that is set to be released in the United States anytime soon, we living stateside are going to be more and more envious of the technological advances Chinese companies like BYD and DJI are able to develop together over the next few years.
From the looks of the video, DJI is pairing a DJI Air 3S drone with a small drone hangar situated on top of the BYD vehicle that features a rising platform to help launch, capture, and store the DJI drone. The DJI Air 3S is a great choice as it's both compact yet capable as it incorporates a dual-camera system that consists of a 1" CMOS 24mm 50MP wide-angle camera and a 1/1.3" CMOS 70mm 48MP medium telephoto camera that can both support 4K60 HDR using 14 stops of dynamic range for high-contrast scenes and 4K120 in Slow Motion mode to capture fast-paced action.
In addition to the standard color mode, the Air 3S drone also offers 10-bit D-Log M with H.265 encoding and HLG, which allow for increased brightness and more detail in low-light scenes. The Air 3S can also self-charge and recover battery from 20% to 80% in just around 30 minutes, making it an ideal store-and-go option.
The Future of Drone/Car Technology
Sadly, as mentioned above, there seems to be very little chance that something like this will be released in the United States any time soon. At least not directly from companies like BYD and DJI, as both face hurdles with launching new technologies like this.
However, you never know. Maybe sanctions will loosen, and the Lingyuan will hit US markets here soon. At launch, BYD shares that the Lingyuan system will retail at 16,000 Yuan (which is about equal to $2,200 USD). The company also shares that this Lingyuan system will be compatible with multiple BYD vehicles, including popular options like the Yangwang U8.
