Well, that’s a bummer. Announced at the end of July, the Sony FX5 has hands down been one of the most anticipated cameras of the year, and by all accounts a favorite to be one of the top compact cinema cameras on the market the moment it officially releases.

However, we might not know its impact or true market response for a while longer, as Sony has revealed that the camera’s release is being postponed due to production issues.

The postponement was announced earlier, and it has now been officially extended with a new target release date of late October, or possibly later. Here’s what we know so far.

Sony FX5 Delayed

It’s a shame too, as the Sony FX5 looks quite promising and exciting. Set to feature 3:2 open gate, 16-bit X-OCN recording, triple base ISO, high frame rates, and a ton of monitoring options, the Sony FX5 should instantly be one of Sony’s best cinema cameras, and a top compact cinema camera option on the market for all types of filmmakers and videographers.

The delay, which has been confirmed on Sony’s official Japanese website, also indicates that its related accessories will also be postponed, which is of little surprise.

Here’s the full statement from Sony Japan:
