New Update Makes Popular Tamron Lens More Powerful for Sony Shooters
A look at firmware update ver. 5 coming to the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD for Sony E-mount.

Tamron Lens Firmware Update
A new firmware update is set to make a popular Tamron lens a bit better and a bit more powerful for Sony shooters. Designed specifically to enhance performance with the Sony a9 III, this latest update should give a nice boost to a solid camera and lens combo.
Unlike cameras, firmware updates are a bit rare—but for photographers and videographers looking for the best performance possible, they’re always welcome. So it’s nice to see Tamron pushing out such an improvement for a single lens and single camera use case.
Let’s look at a firmware update ver. 5 coming to the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD for Sony E-mount and how it's enhancing AF performance and support for continuous shooting with the Sony a9 III.
Tamron Lens Firmware Update
Scheduled for February 20, 2025, this latest firmware update from Tamron lens is for the 35-150mm F/2-2.8 Di III VXD (Model A058) for Sony E-mount. With this new firmware update (ver. 5), the AF performance during zooming will be improved when shooting videos and still images in AF-C mode.
Along with this general improvement, Tamron shares that the update will also enhance the Sony a9 III specifically. When the Sony a9 III focus mode is set to AF-S, DMF, or MF, the Tamron lens will now support continuous shooting at up to approximately 120 frames per second.
