It’s been a wild few days so far. Blackmagic Design kicked off NAB Show 2025 with a bang, announcing the new PYXIS 12K cinema camera as a follow-up to the PYXIS 6K, which was previously announced one year ago at NAB Show 2024.

However, a lot in the world has changed since Friday of last week when the PYXIS 12K was announced with a suggested retail price of $4,995 for US customers. Tariffs in the United States are certainly going to bring vast pricing changes across the entire film and video industry, and in response to these tariff announcements, Blackmagic Design is changing the price to the PYXIS 12K and other cameras.

Here’s what you need to know about this latest pricing news and where we think things might end up for Blackmagic and the numerous other camera manufacturers and film brands in the industry.

Blackmagic PYXIS 12K Price Change

As covered a few days ago, Blackmagic Design shared information on its social channels indicating that the price of the PYXIS 12K was going to change from $4,995 in US markets to $6,595 (roughly a 32% increase).

Now, according to reports from Y.M. Cinema Magazine, Blackmagic has indicated in the Blackmagic Forum that the price for the PYXIS 12K is going to be moved back down from this $6,959 number to $5,500.

This pricing update is now reflected on the product page for the PYXIS 12K on Blackmagic’s website and appears to be the price that the company is going to use moving forward. However, again, there’s a lot that could still change with these tariffs.

We’ll explore this a lot more in the coming weeks and months, but with the tariffs that the Trump administration is implementing, there are undoubtedly going to be major fluctuations in pricing for all types of cameras, products, and filmmaking gear in the United States.

Blackmagic Design is changing prices right now, but we’ll very likely see new pricing for every major camera manufacturer and film gear brand in the coming weeks and months. We’ll do our best to keep everyone up to date on what prices might change, what types of gear might be most impacted, and how filmmakers can plan to adjust.

For now, though, the PYXIS 12K is still ready to go and appears to be set with this new $5,495 price. Only $500 more than originally announced, and a pretty insane price point for such a powerful cinema camera.
