Reports Indicate That a Possible New Sony Cinema Camera Could Be on the Way

A Rumored New Sony Cinema Camera

According to reports filed by Sony Rumors, online sleuths have discovered that Sony has apparently registered a new camera code in China. A document also appears to indicate that this new Sony camera is set to be manufactured in Shanghai, China, a location where Sony has developed cinema cameras in the past.

The reports further indicate that this new camera could be one of two possible models. It could either be a new Sony FX8, which would be an updated version of the FX6 or FX9 cameras, or it could be a new compact camera similar to the FX3 II—or something similar to that model.

What’s Next for Sony?

While these rumors are obviously not confirmed by Sony at this time, working on and announcing cameras like the ones floated above would absolutely make sense and be on par with what we’ve seen from Sony over the past few years.

One could argue that the fact that Sony didn’t have a major new camera announcement at NAB this year might be a bit odd. The Sony BURANO is proving to be quite popular and powerful in the industry, so maybe Sony will let that camera cost for a while before rolling out another new competitor.

Still, while the camera industry does appear to be quite healthy overall, it also seems like things are slowing down just a little bit.
